Nowadays many people go first to the internet rather then their local travel
agent to find flights. They are right - the best place to find the cheapest
airfares is on the internet. There are many ways to do this and below we
outline the best places to look.
General internet travel sites often are a one-stop shopping site for
flights, hotel rooms, car rentals etc and some of them are great places for
bargain hunters. There are several sites which specially offer the lowest
fares rather then offering a full range of services. Many of the sites are
well designed and load quickly but some are just the opposite! You can
often get unsold seats on charter flights which can be a great deal if you
are happy to arrange your own accommodation. These are also good sites to
find scheduled flights at discount prices. Once you find a good site then
bookmark it - this will save you time and money.
Auction sites can be a great source of bargains, particularly if you are
flexible about your destination and dates of travel. You just bid what you
are prepared to pay and then when the auction is over and you are the
highest bidder then you go off on a wonderful trip. Remember that you canšt
change any of the details and your bid is legally binding. Our best advice
is to be very sure you can (and want) to go on the flight you are bidding
for - you will have to buy it anyway if yours is the highest bid when the
auction closes.
Most low-cost airlines have their own websites and they should be your first
port of call if you know where you want to travel to, particularly if you
are travelling from a regional airport with few destinations. Remember that
once youšve booked your flight you canšt change any of the details without
paying an additional fee (which can be more then the cost of your original
ticket!). Many budget airlines have very special offers on for a limited
few days and these are worth looking out for - again particularly if you can
be flexible on dates or destination. Some of the special flight prices
include the airport taxes and are loss leaders for the companies - these can
be amazing bargains. It is worth looking at these sites frequently if you
just want a break and are not too bothered about where or when you fly.
Donšt forget though that most low-cost airlines fly to airports quite far
from the city destination and the additional cost and time in travel isnšt
always worth the discounted price. Donšt forget to check where the airport
actually is and how long it will take to get to where you actually want to
be. Many of budget airlines offer a discounted price for booking online,
although you can book on the telephone if you want to.
Another cheap way to travel is to take a courier flight. You agree to look
after a package for a courier company and they will pay all or some of your
flight costs. The drawback is flights are booked at short notice - often
only a day or two in advance - and you have to allow lots of extra time to
collect and deliver the documents at each airport. The flights are often
one-way only which may be a disadvantage and if you are travelling with
someone else they may not be able to travel on the same flight as you.
Other advice for buying airline tickets cheaply is to stay for a Saturday
night, consider flying at off-peak times and try to avoid flying on a
Friday. If you can fly mid week and in the middle of the day you will
usually find the cheapest flights. For charter flights, the later you book
the cheaper they will be; but the opposite is the case for scheduled flights
- the last minute price will be very expensive as they are often appealling
to business travellers who have to travel on a particular date, no matter
what the cost.
Internet fraud is in fact a very rare occurance (despite what the newspapers
say!) and you can buy flights online with confidence. If you are not buying
direct from an airline, then ensure you are buying with an ATOL bonded firm,
so should the worst happen you will get your money back if the firm goes out
of business. ATOL protects your money if you are making a booking in the UK
and is the only protection scheme for air holidays and flights sold by tour
operators.
Cheap flight deals can be easily found on the net. Airport parking, flight information and travel insurance are usually also available on the same site. The cheapest flights are acquired by booking well in advance, although last minute deals can be very competitive. Cheap flights to Spain, flights to Australia and airline tickets to France are the most popular destinations. Student flight tickets are often cheapest, and good deals can be found for Spain, France and Turkey. Other good airline ticket deals are available for a flight to New York, a flight to Thailand, a cheap flight to Cyprus and
flights from London Heathrow. Cheap flights to Greece are currently in demand, many websites offering the cheapest flights to Greece and great discount airline tickets for Athens in Greece. A good place to look for cheap airline flights to Greece is at Flights infocus.co.uk for cheapest Athens tickets, airport car parking and discount flights to Greece. Try and make your search for tickets specific, like ' flight germany from London heathrow' or 'flight to canada from Glasgow airport'. Flights to portugal, Malta or Soain are busy during the holiday season, so book early. Low cost flights to airports in Europe are often from the less accesible airports such as Stansted airport, Luton airport or Prestwick airport. The cheap airlines often operate from these locations, offering low cost flight tickets to Spain, France, Germany, Italy and Greece. Flights to european destinations like Italy, Malaga, Cyprus or France also often offer car hire and airport parking. Check out all the deals and other offers available at the terminal. Flights to the USA, including New York, Florida and Washington can be booked online by searching for the specific airline that supplies those flights, like British airways or Air France. |
